St. Paul’s United Church

Pastoral Care

At Home Faithfuls

This group comprises all of our church folks who reside in Personal Care Homes, Retirement Homes, or their own homes, who are unable to attend church in person.  Our Congregational Life team ensures that they receive weekly updates of St. Paul’s newsletters and bulletins.  Some have internet capability while others receive their news hand delivered by a group of dedicated volunteers.  Many of our At Home Faithfuls have regular visits and/or phone contact with members of our Visiting Team.

Pastoral Care Visitation Team

Our Visiting Team currently consists of 15 trained volunteers who visit either in person or by telephone.  One visitor is assigned to each Personal Care Home/Retirement Home while several other visitors connect with our At Home Faithfuls in their own residences.  Any pastoral concerns are then relayed to our ministry staff for followup.  Our Visiting Team meetings take place on the second Wednesday of the month at 11:00 a.m.

Grief Support Group - Women

Women who have recently experienced the death of a loved one are invited to join a peer led faith group to remember, share stories and support each other as we explore the journey of grief. We will meet weekly for 8 weeks starting on November 21st from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church, with the final 3 weeks being post-Christmas. Are you  interested in joining? Please contact Linda Fong at (709) 290-1790 or by email  at lindafong1@gmail.com  (Please note  area code is 709 not 705).

Grief Support Group - Men

Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month – 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.  here at St. Paul’s. The meetings will provide a confidential but relaxed place for men to gather and support each other in their loss. No one grieves the same way so it’s a chance to touch base with others and hopefully not only learn more about grief but to know that you are not alone and that others may be struggling with similar issues. This group will be co-led by John McCullough and Karen Ptolemy-Stam.  Are you interested, please contact John at 705-526-9860 or by email at wyewood@gmail.com.

Prayer Shawls:

Our Prayer Shawls and Cross Squares are available in the Sanctuary just to the right as you come in the swinging door.
When in need of comfort and a physical hand-held reassurance that God is with you, please take one.

Facilitator Bereavement Training

Training was offered in response to the need for facilitators for bereavement groups. We are now building a team of trained facilitators to help us with this work.
If you or someone you know in the community is interested, please have them call Kathy.
