The musical life of St Paul’s is very much alive and well! Our choir continues to offer their time and talent each week with joy and generosity of spirit and as their director, I am grateful for that. A definite highlight of 2016 was our Christmas cantata, Were You There on that Christmas Night by Lloyd Larson. We were joined by talented instrumentalists and by extras in the choir that bolstered our numbers to approximately 30! What fun we all had preparing for that marvelous morning! Thank you, again, to all involved who worked so hard and gave us so much! Our core choir continues to grow in number which is very exciting! Special music was offered throughout the year by individual choir members as well as guests including Karen Warner, Eh Mu La and Moo Soe, Shayla Brown and Dan Donaldson, to name a few. I look forward to 2017 as we continue to grow musically, skillfully and spiritually as part of the St Paul’s family.

St Paul’s “Bell A’Peal Handbell Choir” continued to thrive through 2016. The choir now numbers 13 ringers and meets at St Paul’s twice a week to hone our skills. During the past year, we rang a number of times at locations such as King Place, Bayfield House, Hillcrest, The Villa, Waypoint and during worship at St Paul’s. We also rang for the third consecutive year at Midland’s Tree Lighting ceremony and we were delighted and very excited to be the guest performers with the Georgian Bay Brass at their Christmas concert – this engagement included ringing a piece with select brass members entitled “Antiphon” which was a highlight for us!

Now in our second year, the St Paul’s hand chime choir continues to engage and delight not only our congregation but other audiences in our community. These 8 ringers rehearse weekly at St Paul’s where they expand their skills and their list of repertoire! We enjoyed taking part in St Paul’s worship services and were excited to ring as guests with the Children’s Community Choir at both their Spring and Christmas concerts.
We would like to thank the Grieve family who generously donated these chimes to St Paul’s in memory of their mother and long-time St Paul’s member, Elizabeth (Betty) Grieve. A dedication ceremony was held in 2016 to officially dedicate the chimes – we are grateful to the Grieve family for this outstanding gift.
The handbell choir and the hand chime choir are working on much new repertoire for 2017 including special music written for bells and chimes together! You won’t want to miss it!
